Ever since the much-loved but low rated sticom Arrested Development got cancelled in 2006, there’s been talk of a film version. The cast members and creators have all talked about the fact they wanted to do it, however the rumours have ranged from it definitely happening, to it being more of a dream than a reality. However now some more concrete news has emerged from THR, which says that the show’s creators, Mitchell Hurwitz and Lesley Goldberg, are now hard at work on the script.
Since this has been the major sticking point, with most of the cast saying they were keen but waiting for someone to produce a workable screenplay, it’s definitely good news for those who want to see what the eccentric Bluth family got up to after the show was cancelled.
It also means that all of the main actors, including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Portia de Rossi and Jeffrey Tambor have committed to the movie, as the creators said they wouldn’t work on a script until that happened. This has also been somewhat of a problem, as Cera has previously suggested that while he wouldn’t rule out a return to Arrested Development, he wanted to see a script first, however it now appears that he’s at least committed in principle to the movie..
There’s no news yet on when the film will go into production (Mitchell Hurwitz will direct), and the makers may find that scheduling is difficult, as since the end of Arrested Development on TV, many of the cast have seen their film careers bloom, or they’re now starring in new TV shows.
