For a while now Dwayne Johnson has been attached to a script called Faster, about an ex-con bent on avenging the murder of his brother (what is it with all these revenge flicks getting made at the moment?). Initially the film was supposed to be directed by Gridiron Gang helmer Phil Joanou, but he’s since dropped out.
While that put the project slightly in limbo, it looks like things are moving forward again with the annoucment in Variety that George Tillman Jr is in talks to take over directing duties on the movie. Tillman most recently made the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, Notorious, as well as making the likes of Soul Food and Men Of Honor (and his work as producer of the hideous Ice Cube Barbershop movies shouldn’t be forgotten either).
Although none of Tillman’s previous films have exactly been masterpieces, the idea of Dwayne going back to proper action thrillers, rather than making kid’s fluff like Race To Witch Mountain and The Tooth Fairy, is certainly good news, and hopefully Tillman will be a pair of steady hands.
