Not long after writer Kevin Williamson announced that he was working on the first part of another Scream trilogy, he also let it be known that he was having difficulties, because Neve Campbell had said she wouldn’t return as Sidney Prescott. At the time it seemed that he was just going to have to make do with Courtney Cox and David Arquette, both of whom have agreed to to reprise their roles in Scream 4.
However during recent interviews Neve has been hinting that maybe she wasn’t as resistant to the idea of returning to the franchise as had been reported. Now, tucked away in an article in Variety about how the Weinstein brothers’ Dimension Films imprint is going back to it roots (basically by setting up a lot of remakes and returning to old franchises), is the news that Campbell has actually signed up to appear in Scream 4. There’s no news on how big her role will be, or if it’ll just be a cameo, but it’s certainly good news that she’ll be back, as Scream wouldn’t be the same without Sidney Prescott.
Wes Craven is still to decide whether he’s doing to direct the fourth ghostface killer movie, saying that he’s waiting to see a finished script before he makes up his mind. Dimension is hoping to start filming Scream 4 in the spring.
