Stanley Tucci has signed up to star in Burlesque, the diva-esque new musical that will see Cher and Christina Aguilera teaming up on screen. Tucci is set to play the manager of a Sunset Boulevard neo-Burlesque club, where Aguilera’s small town girl with a big voice finds success, after being taken under the wing of former dancer Tess (Cher).
Written and directed by actor Steven Antin, the film is due to start filming in November, and is probably most notable for marking Cher’s first screen role in over a decade. However there’s no doubt that the more news that comes out about the film, the camper Burlesque seems. Even the suggestion in Variety that the club is going to be like the one in Bob Fosse’s Cabaret just makes the whole thing seem camper than a row of tents. However that’s not necesarily a bad thing, and the always classy Tucci should hopefully keep things grounded.
Stanley was recently seen in Julie & Julia and will be in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones this winter.
