Sam Raimi has decided he needs to take Refuge. He’s stepped up to produce a supernatural thriller by that name, which is based on a pitch by British director Corin Hardy, about a town that’s being terrorised by a yeti.
The plan is that Hardy, who’s yet to make a feature film but has quite a few music videos for the likes of Prodigy and Keane under his belt, will direct from a script by fellow Brit Tom De Ville. Initially Raimi wants Hardy and De Ville to make a short film based on the same concept, in order to help them refine their vision for the film. I
t’s a great idea, with the Spider-man director basically taking these people under his wing and putting them through a sort of mainstream genre film boot camp, with them hopefully emerging as major new talents. It’s really nice to see, as he joins the likes of Guillermo Del Toro, who’s used his Hollywood clout to champion numerous young filmmakers and help them to find success.
There’s no news yet on when the yeti movie might appear in cinemas, although Raimi is hoping to get it out through his Ghost House Picture production company, which has handled horror flick like The Messengers, Drag Me To Hell, The Grudge remakes and the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead.
