It seems that every graphic novel ever written has been picked up for a movie adaptation in the last couple of years, but one of those that no one’s mentioned until now is Mal Chance, Pardo Morancho’s tale about a woman called Lola, who is part of an ancient clan of assassins targeted for death by a powerful gangster. Her only recourse is to bring down the gangster’s entire operation with the help of an honest FBI agent who is unaware of her true identity.
Now Platinun Dunes, the company that not only produces endless remakes of horror movies, such as The Amiltyville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th and the upcoming A Nightmare On Elm Street, but also has one of the biggest independent stables of comic characters in the world, has set producer Tony Krantz to oversee a live action version of Mal Chance.
It’s certainly not the only Platinum Dunes title that’s headed for the screen, as out of the 5,600 characters and franchises they own, Cowboys And Aliens is being set up at Dreamworks with Jon Favreau directing, Disney are adapting Unique, while Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are currently overseeing Atlantic Rising.
