A few days ago we wrote about how Warners no longer wanted to make a movie based on Masters Of The Universe, and so Mattel had taken the property back and was now looking for a new studio, in order to get a live action version of He-Man and his chums into cinemas. Well, it didn’t take them long, as Variety is reporting that Sony in finalising a deal to produce the live action He-man movie.
Warner and Mattel parted ways over a difference of opinion in the creative direction the movie was taking, but Sony seems happy to take over. However as Warner still own all the scripts and development that was done while they were overseeing the project, they’re basically going to have to start all over again at Sony, with new screenwriters, a new vision and hopefully a less troubled road to the screen than the project had with its previous studio.
Instead of going to all the trouble of making a new film, we don’t know why they don’t just re-release the 1980s Dolph Lundgren Masters Of The Universe movie, which I’m sure you’ll agree, was a masterpiece of fantasy entertainment, and not camp, cheesy or at all ridiculous.
