Disney’s horseracing movie about the legendary triple-crown winning horse, Secretariat, has added three new non-equine members to its cast, with THR reporting that John Malkovich, Scott Glenn and Dylan Walsh all signing up to star apposite Diane Lane in the movie.
The film will follow the journey of Penny Tweedy (Lane), the owner of Secretariat, who started out as an inexperienced newcomer and became the first lady of US racing, thanks to the success of her thouroughbred horse, which won the Belmont Stakes, Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 1973, to becomes the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years.
Malkovich will play the horse’s charismatic trainer, who initially underestimates Secretariat’s abilities, while Glenn will be a Southern aristocrat who loses the horse in a coin toss. There no news however on what role Walsh will play.
Filming on the movie begins this week under the direction of Randall Wallace, best known as the screenwriter of Braveheart and Pear Harbor.
