Paul Giamatti is preparing to turn villainous as Variety is reporting that he’s signed up to star in the medieval action movie, Ironclad, as the tyrannical King John. Giamatti is a great choice for the role, as he’s a very good bad guy and has shown previously that he’s perfect for roles that require an iron fist in a velvet glove.
Ironclad has been described as a sort of 13th Century Magnificent Seven, about a group of Knights Templar who must defenc Rochester Castle against the great pretender, King John, and his army. James Purefoy is set to play the lead role, while it’s believed that Robert Carlyle, Bob Hoskins, William Moseley, Pete Postlethwaite and Richard Attenborough will also be making an appearance in the movie.
The film is due to go in front of the cameras next month, under the direction of Jonathan English, whose main previous credit is the dodgy 2006 flick, Minotaur. Let’s hope he does a little better this time, as he’s certainly got the ingredients for a great knights-in-armour romp.
