Having only just finished working together on the upcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, Invictus, THR is reporting that director Clint Eastwood and actor Matt Damon plan to work together again on the supernatural thriller, Hereafter.
Written by Peter Morgan, best known for his work on The Queen and Frost/Nixon, there’s no news yet on exactly what Hereafter will be about, other than Warner Bros. describing it as “like The Sixth Sense”. As every supernatural film of the last decade has been said to be like The Sixth Sense, that doesn’t really mean much, but hopefully more will be revealed soon. Damon will take on the lead role in the movie, whatever that may be.
Not only is a supernatural thriller virgin territory for Peter Morgan, but it’s also unusual for the 79-year-old Eastwood, who’s never really tackled the otherworldly before, either as an actor of director. However despite his advancing years, he shows no sign of slowing down and is currently one of the best directors in the world, so you can’t imagine he’d have been interested in Herafter unless Morgan’s script offered something special.
Invictus, in which Matt Damon plays rugby player Francois Pienaar, with Morgan Freeman as Mandela, is due out later this year, while Hereafter ahould be out next year.
