I’d almost forgotten that Orlando Bloom existed, but he is indeed still around and making The Cross, Andrew Niccol’s new sci-fi drama, about Mylar (Bloom) and his brother, who live in a dystopian future and decide to cross a mysterious, heavily guarded border, in hope of a better life on the other side, and who must then return in the hope of setting others free.
Niccol has a great track record for writing intelligent, rather philosophical movies, such as Gattaca, The Truman Show and Lord Of War (he also wrote and directed S1m0ne, which was interesting if pretty boring), and it sound likes he’s going for a similar thinky yet entertaining vibe here.
Now some very cool concept art for The Cross has emerged, which suggests the film could be set in an impressive looking furtustic wasteland. We’ve embedded a few images below, but head over to The Quiet Earth to see more. The Cross is currently filming in Australia, with a release planned for next year.
