As well as announcing the full name of Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 at Disney’s D3 Expo, studio chairman Dick Cook also talked about the fact they were making ‘The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made’, which is due to be written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, Jason Segal.
Although it’s been known Segal was working on a Muppet movie, we haven’t previously known what it was called, and I’m not entirely certain that we do now. While numerous websites are reporting that Cook officially announced this as the actual title of the movis, Variety refers to it as a ‘quip’, and so it may just be that it’ll be a very cheap Muppet flick and Cook was making a joke.
Others have suggested it’s a reference to an old Jim Henson idea, which was make a film where Gonzo blows the movie’s budget on the opening credits, with the rest of the film seeing Kermit and co. having to only use one location, while pretending they’re going all over the world. However as far as we know this isn’t the plot of Segal’s movie, which he’s said will be about the Muppets trying to save their theatre from an evil oil tycoon.
Whether calling it the ‘Cheapest’ was a joke or not, it’s good to hear that Disney is serious about making a new muppet movie.
