For the past couple of months there’s been talk about a sequel to Hancock, and while director Peter Berg has previously hinted that Will Smith may be up for it at some point and that the follow-up’s plot would involve Jason Bateman’s character, there’s been little word if Charlize Theron is up for another superhero outing. However at the Toronto Film Festival, Berg said that “Everybody’s going to come back for a sequel”, with Variety taking this as confirmation of all three stars’ involvement.
Writers Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara are currently writing the script for the follow-up, and although there’s been no official word about what the film will be about, Berg has previously talked about there being a third god, beside Smith and Theron’s super-powered characters, and that this is what Hancock 2 will be about.
As yet, nobody has signed on the dotted line to appear in Hancock 2, but it certainly sounds like the will is there, and with the first movie making $624 million at the worldwide box office, you can see why Sony is so keen to make sure a sequel gets onto the silver screen.
