We haven’t seen much from Halle Berry in the last couple of years, largely because she went off and had a baby and then decided to spend some time raising it rather than immediately rushing off to make more movies. However she’s working her way back to the screen, with the multiple personality disorder drama Frankie and Alice in post-production and now news that she’s in talks to star in the action-thriller Dark Tide, which is due to be directed by Clark Johnson (The Sentinel, S.W.A.T.).
Variety says that Halle’s currently in advanced talks for the film, which is about a diving instructor who goes back into the big blue after a near-fatal incident with a great white shark. Presumably there’s a bit more to it than that, because a film about somebody going for a dip doesn’t exactly sound that interesting, unless of course the makers are presuming that just getting Berry into a swimsuit is enough to ensure packed cinemas (although that’s probably a better idea than relying on her acting, which despite her Oscar win, isn’t exactly great).
The movie is due to start filming in South Africa later this year, based on a script by Amy Sorlie.
We’re hoping this is a proper killer shark movie, as we haven’t had a decent one in a while, and they’re always good fun.
