With Pixar getting honoured with the Golden Lion for their filmmaking achievements at the Venice Film Festival, they repaid the compliment by screening some early, never before seen footage from Toy Story 3, which is due out July 2010, for festivalgoers.
/Film is reporting (slight spoilers ahead, but nothing you won’t know before the film opens anyway) that the footage comes from early in the movie and shows that Andy has now grown up and is ready to head off to college. His mother tells him to clear out his room, sorting things out for whether they should go in the attic or trash. After deciding to take Woody with him to university, Andy puts the rest of his toys into a black plastic bag, to go into the attic. However a mix up sees the bag getting mistaken for trash and put out for the bin-men. Although Woody realises what is going on and tries to save his friends, he doesn’t manage it and the footage ended with the toys disappearing into the rubbish truck.
It certainly sounds like the film is sticking to the tried and tested rescue plot that we’ve seen in the first two movies, however as it’s worked before, there’s no reason to say it won’t again. And nobody should ever bet against Pixar.
Pixar’s John Lasseter also showed the opening 10 minutes of Dinsey’s hand-drawn animation, The Princess And The Frog, which sees Tiana as a young girl getting told the story of the Princess And The Frog, and making it known she doesn’t like our amphibian friends. The movie then time-shifts to a now grown Tiana, who dreams of owning her own restaurant, but has to make do working hard as a waitress. The clips ended with a jazz song which appears to feature the film’s magical villain, Dr. Facilier. The Princess And The Frog is due out February 12th, 2010.
