With 2009 being the 60th anniversary of the founding of Communist China, the world’s most populace nation has gotten very interested in its history, both ancient and modern. Jet Li is starring in a movie about the founding of the People’s Republic, while Chow Yun-Fat is playing the ancient Chinese philosopher, Confucius, whose thoughts on life have shaped the country’s modern history almost as much as Marx and Engels.
Now an absolutely gorgeous trailer for the latter movie, simply titled Confucius, has appeared and it’s taken a lot of people’s breath away. China really has become good at these intricate period movies. In fact they’re threatening to steal Britain’s period movie crown (although luckily as they don’t speak English in China, ours still do better outside Asia). It may not look like the most action-packed movie, but it certainly seems to be a stunningly put together epic, and it’ll be intriguing to see how interesting the life of the ancient philosopher is on screen.
