It’s taken an awful long time, but filming has finally started on The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz. The production has been hit by a never-ending series of delays, from script problems to Stephen Chow first stepping out of the director’s chair and then vacacting the role of Kato. However he’s now been replaced by Michel Gondry at the helm, while Jay Chou will be playing Kato.
It was also announced a couple of days ago that because of all these delays, the release date has been moved from July to December 2010, as all the delays have ensured it would be virtually impossible to get the movie finished on time.
However, Columbia has now sent out a press release confirming that filming on The Green Hornet has begun in Los Angeles. They also confirm the rumoured casting of Edward James Olmos, as well a giving us the news that Tom Wilkinson and David Harbour have joined the cast.
Everything doesn’t seem quite sorted yet though, as despite the fact they’ve already started filming the movie, Nicolas Cage is still only in negotiations to appear in the movie. They’re hoping he’ll play the villain, but he’ll have to make up his mind pretty soon or otherwise there’ll be a rather large hole in the film (don’t worry though, Columbia will have already signed a back-up in case Cage drops out).
Despite the problems, The Green Hornet still has all the right ingredients to be a great film, but we’ll have to wait until December 17th, 2010 to find out if they pull it off. Personally, we can’t wait for Britt Reid and his chauffeur to start kicking-ass as masked superhero The Green Hornet and his chop-socky sidekick Kato.
