Even the idea of a TV series from Martin Scorsese and Sopranos producer Terence Winter is enough to get anyone excited, but it’s now officially happening as HBO has given the greenlight to Boardwalk Empire, ordering 11 episodes of the series, to go with the already-produced pilot that Scorsese also directed.
Based on Nelson Johnson’s book, ‘Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City’, the series will revolve around real-life Atlantic City player Nucky Thompson, who is described as being equal parts politician and gangster. And just to make the whole thing even more exciting, Steve Buscemi is playing the lead role.
As well as having Scorsese and Winter producing, so is Mark Wahlberg, while the impressive cast list also includes Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Dabney Coleman and Stephen Graham. There is no doubt this could be one hell of a series.
The only problem we can possibly foresee is that it’s going to cost a massive amount to make, not just on the talent but on recreating the 1920s, so let’s hope plenty of people watch it when it starts airing next year.
