Although a sequel to 30 Days Of Night has been in the works pretty ever since the first film was released, there hasn’t been very much news about it in the last year or so, possibly because while it did okay at the cinema (considering its fairly small $30 million budget), the film has made a lot more money on DVD and Blu-ray, and so it’s taken a while for them to decide it really is worth spending the money on a follow-up.
However now Bloody Disgusting is reporting that not only is 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days still in the works, but that shooting is due to beging this October in Vancouver. However it does look a bit like they’re trying to do this one on the cheap, as while the character of Stella Oleson will be returning, she won’t be played by Melissa George, (a replacement hasn’t yet been announced). Nor will director David Slade be returning, as he’ll be up to his neck in different vampires, dealing with post production on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Instead Ben Ketai will be making his feature debut with the movie.
Ketai also co-wrote the two 30 Days Of Night web-series, and has worked on the sequel script with Steve Niles, the man behind the whole franchise concept. 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days will reportedly concentrate on Stella joining a team of vampire hunters in order to get revence on bloobsucker Lilith, who was resposible for the attack on her Alaskan town.
With no major cast members returning and a newbie director at the helm, this is sounding rather straight-to-DVD, although there’s no news yet on whether this will be a theatrical release or not.
