Rebecca De Mornay, remember her? Well it turns out she’s not dead – at least hopefully not – as it’s been announced she’s going to headline Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of Mother’s Day. However while she may have first set men’s heart aflutter as prostitute Lana in Risky Business, this role is more in the vein of her creepy turn as a psychotic nanny in The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.
De Mornay will be playing ‘Mother’ in the film, who is the head of a bizarre family where her sons live for her approval and will do anything to get it. As she’s nuts and enjoys a bit of rape and murder, even Jerry Springer might think this lot were a bit odd. In the film, they return to their former home and terrorise the new owners and their guests.
It’s a remake of a 1980 horror flick, with Saw franchise director Bousman due to start filming next week, and which will also teature Jamie King, Shawn Ashmore, Briana Evigan, Matt O’Leary and Deborah Ann Woll.
Will this be the start of a career resurrection for De Mornay, who finally seems to be embracing the fact that after Hand That Rocks The Cradle, that’s the sort of film people want to see here in.
Mother’s Day is due out next spring.
