To be honest this isn’t actually surprising news, but The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen as the eponymous hero, has been pushed back five months, so that it’ll appear in cinemas in December 2010, rather than in mid-July. It seems the makers have given themselves a bit of a reality check, as with the movie not even having started filming yet, the post-production issues to get the film into cinemas by next July would be enormous.
As Rogen told HitFix, “It gives more time for post, which would have been immensely rushed if we were to come out in the summer. It also affords us more time to promote the film, (now we can go to Comic-Con with more than a car!) and ultimately is a great vote of confidence from the studio.”
However it does add to the problems the film has faced, including a far longer pre-production schedule than planned, including changes of director and cast, which now means there’s little time left to make the movie and get it ready if they still wanted it out next summer.
Although it means the film moves out of the rather packed summer schedule, where it would have had to do battle with the likes of The Last Airbender, Inception, Twilight: Eclipse and others, it is true few Superhero-type movies have tried out a Christmas release strategy, and even fewer have done it successfully (Superman is about the only superhero hit released at Christmas).
Although Green Hornet does seem to have been beset by one problem after another, hopefully the movie itself will work out.
