Sylvester Stallone has had a fairly interesting career resurrection in the past few years. Although revisiting classic characters like Rambo and Rocky initially seemed like desperation, he’s largely kept things on track by writing and directing the films himself. He’s now planning to do it again as a fifth Rambo instalment has officially been announced, with Stallone once more in front of and behind the camera (the Italian Stallion had hinted at this news in interviews, but this is the first time we’ve known it’s definitely happening).
Vartiety reports that the new film’s storyline revolves around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. And if the last movie was anything to go, it certainly won’t stint on the blood-letting, as Rambo was an astonishingly violent movie.
Stallone certainly shows no signs of letting up, even though by the time the fifth Rambo film arrives in cinemas, he’s likely to be a pensioner. At the moment he’s finishing work on The Expendables, which promises to be an action spectacular, bringing together the likes of Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke and more. That movie is due out next spring, which is also when Rambo V is due to start filming.
