With Halloween II hitting US cinemas last weekend, The Weinstein Company has taken the opportunity to annouce that a third film in the reboot series in in the works, and this one will be made in 3D. However with Rob Zombie recently announcing he is working on a remake of The Blob, Bob Weinstein confirmed to the LA Times that there’ll be a new director for the next Halloween instalment.
Although Bob didn’t say who this new director was, he did confirm they’re already in talks with someone who has experience in the horror genre, who would provide a different take on Michael Myer’s reign on terror. Although no production date has yet been set, they’re hoping to get the 3D slasher into cinemas next summer.
There are bound to be those who’ll bemoan the fact another Halloween movie is in the works, but you can understand why the studio is keen on them. Halloween II cost around $15 million to make and grossed $17 million in its first weekend (and would have probably made more if it hadn’t gone up against horror competition from the Final Destination), so there’s obviously plenty of people out there who want to see what Myers will get up to next, and as they’re cheap to make, they’re a bit of a license to print money.
