So we can cover as many films as possible, rather than writing full stories on some of today’s smaller film announcements, we thought we’d give you these quick updates…
Maggie Grace (Taken, Lost) is in negotiation to join the cast of the currently untitled James Mangold movie (sometimes known as Wichita), that’s due to star Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The film is about a lonely woman (Diaz) whose seemingly harmless blind date suddenly turns her life upside-down when a super spy (Cruise) takes her on a violent worldwide journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source. Grace would play Diaz’s soon-to-be married sister. (Source: THR)
Demian Bechir, who was most recently seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Che movies, has signed on to appear in the Irish indie feature, The Runway, which is due to be directed by commercials helmer Ian Power. The movie is based on a true story about a South American pilot who crash landed in Cork in 1983. The locals then banded together to build him a runway, to make sure he could get home safely (presumably Bechir will play the pilot). Kerry Condon and Jaime Kierans will also star in the movie. Shoreh Agadashloo (X3, The Lake House) is close to signing on to appear in the Matt Damon sci-fi thriller, The Adjustment Bureau. The movie, based on a Philip K Dick story, is also set to feature Emily Blunt and Anthony Mackie, and follows a smooth-talking congressman (Damon) whose political future is thrown in doubt by the arrival of a mysterious ballerina (Blunt) in his life, only for this to start leading to questions about the very nature of existence. George Nolfi (writer of The Bourne Ultimatum) is due to direct, although there’s no word on what role the wonderfully named Agadashloo will play. (Source: Variety)
Oscar Isaac, who’s been seen in Body Of Lies and Che, and will also appear in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Robin Hood movie, has joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s (300, Watchmen) Sucker Punch. He’ll join Emily Browning, Carla Gugino, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Scott Glenn, John Hamm and Abbie Cornish in the film, about a girl (Browning), who gets admitted to an insane asylum and then retreats into an alternate reality as a coping strategy. There’s no news on what role Isaac will be playing in the film. (Source: Variety)
The relatively little-known quartet of Bokeem Woodbine, Peter Jason, Noah Bean and Deborah Ann Woll have joined Josh Lucas, Terrence Howard and Lake Bell in the supernatural thriller Little Murder, which is currently filming uder the direction of Peter Antonijevic (Saviour). The movie is is set after Hurricane Katrins and follows a disgraced detective (Lucas), who may find redemption when the ghost of a beautiful cellist (Bell) wants his help to find her killer.
