I’ve been trying to work out exactly why the world is ending in 2012. From the footage we’ve seen so far, it just looks like the Earth is giving up and randomly destroying things in any way possible. A new Japanese trailer has now emerged showing us plenty more, previously unseen, cataclysmic action, with the world going to shit once the Mayan calendar ends, and people finding anyway to survive.
It does look very cool in an all-out action kind of way, but we couldn’t help but notice how many of the shots in this trailer seem to be recycled from other movies, including from Emmerich’s own films (particularly Day After Tomorrow), as well as bits that look like everything from Deep Impact to Angels & Demons. But maybe that’s the plan, to try and make us think that every disaster movie we’ve seen before has been leading up to the truly OTT 2012. If that’s true, expect the next trailer to feature aliens and a large boat hitting an iceberg. Click below to watch the new Japanese trailer. 2012 is in UK cinemas on November 13th.
