He may have started out in the world of music and dance, directing shows for MTV and making promos for musicians, but even though his first major Hollywood project, Fame, is yet to be released, Kevin Tancharoen must have already impressed people enough that he’s being lined up for the sci-fi flick Arcana, which is due to be produced by Brett Ratner.
The makers are keeping the plot for Arcana under wraps, but they have said it’s like a live action graphic novel influenced by Blade Runner. It also apparently uses martial arts and will be made using similar technology to 300. It’s a rather meaningless description, which seems more keen on using keywords that’ll get Hollywood suits excited, rather than telling us anything about the movie.
Apparently Tancharoen developed the idea for the film himself, along with actor Harry Shum Jr, while the script for the film will be handled by John Ridley, who’s currently working on Red Tails for George Lucas.
If they can get all those keywords on the screen, maybe Arcana will be okay, but until then we’ll have to reserve judgement
