Variety is reporting that British director Julie Anne Robinson has signed up to direct an adaptation of Ann Brashares’ novel, The Last Summer Of You and Me, while Mike Thompson (Dragonfly, Love Happens) has been brought in to rewrite the film.
While not a well-known name, Robinson actually started out directing British TV shows such as Holby City and Doctors, before moving across the pond and onto shows like Weeds and Grey’s Anatomy. She’s currently taking the reins on the Nicholas Sparks adapatation, The Last Song, starring Mile Cyrus.
This isn’t the first Brashares novel to make it to the big screen, as she’s also the woman behind The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants. The Last Summer Of You And Me is about two sisters, Riley and Alice, spending time on Fire Island and getting caught in a love trangle with their next-door neighbour, Paul, who has returned from university, rekindling feelings that have lain dormant while he was away.
It’s sounds almost like the ultimate chick flick, ready to tick all the boxes of romance and longing, although as it pits sister against sister, perhaps there’s something more they can mine from it.
