Only a few days ago, director Peter Berg was talking up plans for a sequel to Hancock, but at that time it seemed he was the only one with plans for a second outing for the boozy superhero. However that’s apparently not true, as THR says Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara have now been hired to write the follow-up. They’ll be working with Will Smith and Berg on ideas for the film, and then they’ll go off and bash out the script for the follow-up to the $600m grossing hit.
Although there’s no official word on the plot, Berg recently told SciFIWire that while the first film suggested there were only two ‘gods’ left, “There might be another god out there.” He also let slip that the subplot about Jason Bateman’s character would pick up where the first film left on, with him just starting a big charity campaign.
At that time Berg suggested that as both he and Smith were busy, we shouldn’t expect anything anytime soon, although the studio seems keen to get things going as soon as possible. Quite why they think Shield producers Fierro and Mazzara are the best to write the film is more mysterious, especially as neither of them have any link to the first movie. Or maybe that’s the plan, with Sony hoping someone can actually write a decent Hancock script this time around.
