While she hasn’t had a film go before the cameras since Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke is certainly planning a lot of movies for the future. She decided against directing The Twilight Saga: New Moon, due to the truncated production schedule that the company behind the film was insisting on, which would have given her less than a year to work on the script, film and edit the movie, ready for a November 2009 release.
However since then she’s been lining up movies at a ridiculous rate, although she’s obivously enjoying being able to take her time in developing them.
Hardwicke is already attached to the family fantasy adventure Maximum Ride, a teen version of Hamlet with Emile Hirsch, as well as If I Stay with Twilight makers Summit and an adaptation of the 80s TV series, 21 Jump Street. She can now add The Girl With the Red Riding Hood to her roster. The film is the recently announced gothic reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood, which is currently being developed by Leonardo Dicaprio’s production company, Appian Way, with David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) currently writing the screenplay.
There’s no news yet on when Red Riding Hood will go in front of the cameras, or indeed when any of Hardwicke’s other planned movies might make it to cinemas.
