Peter Chelmsom has had an interesting career. He started out as an actor on Brit TV, directed the hit UK movies Hear My Song and Funny Bones, headed off to America and made The Mighty, then directed the devilled Town & Country, which became one of the biggest money-losers of all time, then fought his way back with Shall We Dance? and this year’s Hannah Montana: The Movie.
He’s now lined up his next gig, Las Vegas, written by Dan Fogelman (Cars, Fred Claus, Bolt). While Vegas set comedies are big at the moment, following the success of The Hangover, with Fogelman’s and Chelsom’s track record, this will probably feature a slightly gentler brand of comedy. The film is about four semi-retired baby boomers from Coney Island, who head off to Las Vegas when the last of them, a successful lawyer in his 60s, decides to tie the knot.
Chelsom will be directing the movie for CBS Films, the new company set up by the US TV network after it and Paramount Pictures were split into two completely separate companies.
There’s no news on the cast yet, although Chelsom commented that as the film is about a group of older gents, “These are four guys from Coney Island, who, when we meet them, think they are invincible. I think the film should attract four great stars in that age range.”
