For a film that hasn’t even started filming yet, Priest has certainly managed to garner a surprising amount of interest. The film is set in a post-apocalytic world that’s been ravaged by a war between human and vampires, with ‘priests’ wandering the wilderness, trying to kill the evil bloodsuckers.
Paul Bettany is due to play one of those priests, who teams up with Cam Gigandet’s sheriff and Maggie Q’s priestess to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece (yep, it’s pretty much The Searchers but with vampires instead of Native Americans).
The adapation of the Tokyopop comic book has now found its head bad guy in the form of Karl Urban, who was most recently seen playing Dr McCoy in Star Trek. According to The Hollywood Reporter he’ll be playing Black Hat, a vamp was once a priest and hunter, but now fancies himself a god of vampires.
Priest, directed by Scott Stewart (a special effects supervisor whose directing debut, the much anticipated angels with machine gund pic, Legion, is due out early next year), is currently due out in the UK on September 24th, 2010.
