Anyone who’s seen the 1981 Sean Connery sci-fi flick Outland will know that while not bad, it isn’t a particularly great movie, however it is based on a very good idea, which means it’s the sort of film that it’s actually worth remaking. And that’s exactly what Shoot ‘Em Up director Michael Davis is planning to do.
With deep space the biggest thing in Hollywood at the moment thanks to Avatar, Outland will take us to a remote mining colony on Jupiter’s moon Io, where a police marshall uncovers a murderous drug-smuggling conspiracy threatening the entire Outland with collapse. It basically ends up being High Noon in space, which is a great idea.
Chad St. John, who worked on the upcoming Warner Bros drama The Days Before, will write the remake.
Davis commented, “We’re staying true to the thematic heart of ‘Outland’ while expanding the space frontier concept.”
There’s no news yet on when they’re hoping to get the movie into cinemas.
