Sometimes the mind of Hollywood is a curious thing. Maybe this is part of some special Wayan’s family care in the community scheme. Perhaps their agent has compromising photos of some top Hollywood executives. Or maybe Sony just thinks black men dressing up as white women is so inherently funny that they couldn’t possibly pass up the chance to make a sequel to White Chicks.
Yep, you read that right, they’re making a follow-up to White Chicks, the 2004 comedy that saw Marlon and Shawn Wayans as FBI agents posing as a couple of white women in order to try and save their jobs.
The sequel will again star the duo, while Keenen Ivory Wayans will once more direct and all three will write the movie. The only reason we can see for this film existing is that the last time the trio worked together, they came up with the abomination that was Little Man, so after that perhaps it makes sense to return to White Chicks, which was at least profitable (if dreadful), grossing over $113 million worldwide and only costing $37 million to make.
I know it’s easy to beat up on the Wayans, but if they’d just stop making films, especially utterly abysmal ones, we wouldn’t have to feel guilty for doing it. Plus we were actually scared of White Chicks, because the make-up used to turn Marlon and Shawn white and female made them look like creepy plastic robots.
