Jason Patric, most recently seen in My Sister’s Keeper, has joined the cast of the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic ,The Losers. He’s set to play the main villain in the movie, which will also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short and Idris Elba as the good guys.
Apparently Patric was lured by the chance to work with director Sylvain White, although why he was so thrilled to be working with the man who behind I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer and Stomp The Yard is a bit of a mystery. The Losers comic follows a Special Forces team who were betrayed by their handler, Max (to be played by Patric), and left for dead. Now on a secret CIA death list, the Losers regroup and plot their revenge, discovering Max is far more dangerous than they ever imagined in the process.
It’s Patric’s first proper villain role and the first time he’s dipped his toes in comic-book waters. He commented, “Let’s face it, the geeks have inherited the world, and if you want to be a player in this system, you have to be willing to do some of this. But I wouldn’t do The Losers if it wasn’t interesting to me as an actor.”
Talk about begrudging the role, but then since his early heartthrob days in The Lost Boys, it is true that Patric has mainly picked dramas and more edgy projects (to be honest, after Speed 2, you can’t blame him for never wanting to try and make a commercial movie again), so The Losers is definitely a bit of a departure for him.
