Another day, another The Twilight Saga: Eclipse casting decision. This time the third teen vampire movie has found its Maria in the form of Catalina Sandino Moreno. As with yesterday’s announcement that Jack Huston will be playing Royce King II in the movie, Maria is part of the backstory that helps explain the past history of some of the Cullen vampire clan.
In Maria’s case, she is a vampire who during the American Civil War tries to create an army of newborn blocksuckers, including Confederare soldier Jasper, to help her claim land and become ever more powerful amongst Mexican vamps. However Jasper eventually runs away after her demands become too much for him.
The Colombian born Catalina Sandino Moreno is best known for playing a different Maria in the 2004 indie drama, Maria Full Of Grace, for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination. She’s also appeared in Fast Food Nation, Steven Soderbergh’s Che and the upcoming Frail.
Eclipse starts shooting next week and will be in cinemas at the end of June, 2010.
