I’ve finally worked it out. Hollywood seems absolutely determined that Sam Worthington is going to be a major a-list star, signing him up for all sorts of coveted projects, from Terminator: Salvation to Avatar. Well it appears the reason is because they’ve decided that they need a new Tom Cruise (the old one seems to have gone a bit wonky, so could do with an upgrade).
While Cruise has been flirting with starring in the movie The Tourist alongside Charlize Theron, he’s now stepped aside and been replaced by Worthington. The movie is a remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer, about a female Interpol agent chooses an everyman American tourist visiting France and dangles him as bait in the hunt for a wanted criminal, who’s also her former lover.
The Tourist is due to be directed by Bharat Nalluri (Miss Mettigrew Lives For A Day) from a script by Julian Fellowes, with filming due to start in January.
While we’re not sure whether Worthington will actually manage to become Tom Cruise 2, the fact he’s nicking his roles is a decent suggestion he will. It also doesn’t help he’s also taking the lead in movies like Clash Of The Titans and The Candidate.
