I wonder how much work Jerry Bruckheimer himself actually does on every film he’s attached to. He seems to produce an almost farcical amount of movies, so you have to wonder how much personal involvement he gives each one. Whatever the answer, it’s now been announced that he’s picked up the rights to the graphic novel World War Robot in a deal that was closed during last weekend’s Comic Con.
The book, written by Ashley Wood, centres on a war between humans and martians, which is fought using robots, and is recounted in war-diary form by participants on both sides.
Although the fully painted book is a rather retrospective piece that contemplates on how war is reported, we’d imagine that with Bruckheimer’s track record, he’s more interested in the possibility of robots blowing things up (hell, it’s worked for him with Transformers).
It appears the film is being set up through Disney, as they just gone on a massive World War Robot web domain buying spree. Bruckheimer hasn’t commented at all on the deal, and as yet there’s no timeframe on when they’re hoping to get the film into cinemas.
