German director Robert Schwentke (Flightplan and the upcoming Time Traveller’s Wife) has signed on to helm the graphic novel adaptation, Red, which is currently due to star Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.
The WildStorm/DC Comic three book series was first published in 2003 and 2004, and tells the story of former black-ops CIA agent Paul Moses who is now living a quiet life in retirement. However when the new director of the CIA learns about what Moses used to get up to, he panics and sends high-tech assassins after the trained operative, which forces Moses out of retirement along with some of his old colleagues.
There’s no news yet on when the film might go into production, although it’s currently due out sometime next year, but we wouldn’t be shocked if it gets bumped to 2011. Schwentke’s long-delayed The Time Traveller’s wife, starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, will be in cinemas of August 14th.
