For someone who died 36 years ago, Bruce Lee has had an incredible posthumous career. Now comes news that not only is a documentary about him being made for a Bruce Lee museum that’s going to be shown in his former Hong Kong house when it’s opened as a musuem, but his family has also teamed up with China’s J.A. Media, to make a three-part film biopic about him, called simply, Bruce Lee.
Lee’s brother, Robert, commented at a press conference for the film, “We’ve read many books and seen many movies about Bruce Lee, but there are many inaccuracies in them.” Presumably these new movies will adress these issues, giving a more accurate and complete picture of the martial arts superstar (although to be honest, most films featuring family involvement tend to massage the facts even more than those made independently).
At the moment the only confirmed cast member is Tony Leung Ka-fai, who’ll play Bruce’s father. Variety has suggested the director way be Zhang Yimou (Hero, House Of Flying Daggers), who isn’t offcially involved yet but has said many times that he’d be keen to make a movie of Lee’s life.
The first of the three films is currently due for release of November 27th, 2010, which woud have been Lee’s 70th birthday.
