They really need to get a move on with The Green Hornet. The movie has been in pre-production for eons and is set for release next summer, but even so they’re still faffing about casting the roles. Last week we discovered Stephen Chow would no longer be playing Kato (having vacated the director’s chair a few months before, to make way for Michel Gondry), and now we discover they’re still mulling over who will play the villain.
The latest name who’s reported to be in talks for the bad guy role is Nicolas Cage’s Hair (I’m convinced the reason Nic only makes rubbish films now if because the real Cage has been possessed by an evil shape-changing hairpiece that makes his decisions for him, while he’s now a mere puppet). Variety doesn’t say much more about the role other than Cage would play a “gangster villain”.
Cameron Diaz is also apparently negotiating a role in the movie as a reporter and love interest.
It’s difficult to know whether we should still be excited about Green Hornet or not. The whole production seems to be so chaotic that it doesn’t seem to bode well, but it is being directed by Michel Gondry, who’s such an interesting choice for a superhero flick it’s difficult not to be a little intrigued. The Seth Rogen starring flick is due to start filming in the autumn, with the cinema release set for next July.
