To be honest it’s not that surprising to find that somewhere has banned Bruno. After all, with some places still having a big problem with all things gay, it was only a matter of time before somebody stepped up to the plate to be the first country to give Bruno its marching orders (and there are plenty of countries where no one would even try to release it, as there’s not even a guestion over wheter it would be banned).
It’s the Ukraine that’s kicked things off, with the mimistry of culture saying the the film could “damage the morality” of its citizens and so they’ve decided to ban all screenings of the movie in the country. They particularly didn’t like the amount of genitals shown, or what it deems “homosexual perversions” being shown in an explicitly realistic manner. It’s believed the move is linked to fears that the film could offend deeply religious sections of the population in the conservative country.
However there’s no news on whether Kazakhstan will follow suit. They bannned Borat (as did Russia) for ridiculing their country, but it’s not yet known how they’re going to react to Bruno.
