Following the suprise success on Taken, which wasn’t expected to do much business in the US but went to to take $145 million in the country, director Pierre Morel has been hot property. While he’s currently finishing up the John Travolta movie, From Paris With Love, he’s now decided on his next film, which is due to be the action thriller Pursuit.
The movie is based on the early career of conflict photographer Jason Howe, who fell in love with a woman while on assignment in Colombia, only to discover she was an assassin. Although based on a true story, it’s believed the film version will be heavily fictionalised on film and turned into the sort of OTT action movie Morel is known for with Taken and District 13.
Morel said about the movie, “Aside from the d.p. and camerawork, I have been shooting still photography since I was a kid and have been fascinated by the reportage in war zones. If I’d been courageous enough, I might have done that myself. There is the sentimental side of a man in love, and a journalist trying not to become involved in the story he is covering.”
He’s also said that he and Luc Besson are currently trying to come up with a sequel to Taken.
