Although he’s perhaps not everyone’s first choice for the voice of a cartoon rabbit, Russell Brand has been cast as the Easter Bunny in the live action/CG animation mix, I Hop. Assumedly he’ll have to tone done his often rude antic for the family comedy which is due out in March, 2011.
The film revolves around a slacker who’s driving home when he runs over the Easter Bunny. As the rabbit can’t hop about doing his duties with a broken leg, the slacker is pressed into duty in order to save Easter. It’s not exactly the most original of concepts and is presumably being based on the Easter Bunny because virtually every other holiday character has already had a similar film made about them.
The movie is going to be directed by Tim Hill, who has plenty of experience mixing CG and live action, having made Garfield 2 and Alvin and the Chipmunks, however it’s his work as a writer on the likes of Soongebob Squarepants and Rocko’s Modern Life, as well as Brand’s involvement, that gives hope that this may offer a bit more than the usual generic family film pap.
