The Risky Biz Blog is reporting that Universal is in the early stages of adapting Dark Horse’s sci-fi comic, Fear Agent, for the big screen. At the moment it’s still an open writing assignment, with Universal inviting screenwriters to give their own take on the characters, although there’s a possibility they may buy in a spec script controlled by producer Jonathan Shestack, who would then produce the movie.
The comic itself started life in 2005 and follows a borderline alcoholic astronaut called Heath Huston. He’s a Texan who works as a Fear Agent, a spaceman whose mission it is to fight alien threats to the planet Earth. The series sees him travelling all over the galaxy battling whatever foe gets in his way.
As this is the sort of movie that’s going to be very expensive to make, we wouldn’t be shocked if it never gets past the script stage, but it could make an absolutely fantastic film if done properly.
It’s not the only Dark Horse property that Universal is developing either, as the studio is also looking at adapting missing teen thriller The Secret, as well as the emo counterculture comic, Emily The Strange.
