He made his name in horror with Cabin Fever and the first two Hostel movies, but Eli Roth has now announced he has no interest in sequels for those movies, instead concentrating on original projects. Talking to ShockTilYouDrop, Roth said about plans for a third Hotel movie, “That’s another one like Cabin Fever 2. The studio had made a lot of money with it so they want to keep going, and the fans, there’s demand for it, and great. If I started something and other people want to continue it, go for it. I’m just not involved in anyway. There’s no negativity about it. I just said, ‘I put everything in my life for three years into these movies. I’ve said everything I have to say with it. I feel very lucky I got to make them and the fans responded the way they did, and if you guys want to continue it, great, go ahead.'”
He also revealed that while he is developing a remake of Tobe Hooper’s Funhouse, talk of him directing the film is premature and that he’ll probably only produce. “It’s a film that I enjoy that I think it would be fantastic to remake…” he says, “But there’s no films that I’m interested in personally remaking. I have too many original stories that I want to do. I’m not saying I wouldn’t but there’s no remake that has trumped any of those other ideas.”
At the moment he’s concentrating on his PG-13 action flick, Endangered Species, as well as doing press for Inglorious Basterds, in which he has a starring role. Roth is hoping to start shooting Endangered Species in the autumn, although this could get pushed back until the following spring. It’ll be his biggest movie to date, costing around $60 miilion, although he’s still not letting slip much more about the movie, simply saying that all deals are under wraps.
