The race is certainly heating up for who will play Hal Jordan, AKA the Green Lantern, in the upcoming movie version of the classic DC Comics character. While much of the speculation has surrounded Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds, you can now add Justin Timberlake to the mix, as it’s rumoured he’s spent several days screentesting for the role. According to The Hollywood Reporter the studio has now narrowed it down to these three names, with an annoucement expected in the next few weeks as to which of them is going to get the part. While you might automatically dismiss the idea of Timberlake, to be honest he’s not a bad actor and out of those three he might actually be the best pick. Also, as Reynolds is already lining up a competing comic book movie with Deadpool, it would seem unlikely he’ll be picked (although we’re not certain whether THR is getting him mixed up with Ryan Gosling, who’s also been rumoured).
Apparently they were meant to have picked an actor for the role before last Monday, which is when their holding deal with the actors ran out, but the problem is that the producer, director and studio each have a different favourite. Expect an annoucement soon though.
There are also rumours circulating that whoever gets the rol they might actually be facing up to Superman, or at least Clark Kent, as it’s being said that the current version of the Green Lantern screenplay features a Man Of Steel cameo.
And while it could have been about a different movie, both Nathan Fillion and Rainn Willson have been taking to Twitter to talk about meetings they’ve had with DC. As Fillion was an early fan favourite to play Hal Jordan, it could be that they’re looking for a way to work him into the Green Lantern, or as we suggested, it may not be to do with this project at all. Although if not, what are DC working on that could feature both Fillion and Wilson? The Flash?
Either way it seems things are really motoring on the Geen Lantern movie, which is due to start filming in November for a June, 2011 release.
