The Hollywood Reporter is saying that I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence may reteam with Will Smith on a movie called The City That Sailed for 20th Century Fox. The movie is being produced by Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Lawrence is currently circling the project with an eye to direct.
Written by Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show), the story follows a New York City street magician whose daughter lives in England. While exploring a lighthouse one day, the girl discovers a room with magic candles and wishes to be reunited with her father, causing the island of Manhattan to break away and drift across the Pond.
However things are still at an early stage as neither Smith nor Lawrence have officially signed on to the film, with Smith still mulling his option (he hasn’t actually a definitely agreeed to appear in anything since Seven Pounds) and Lawrence developing a movie called Water For Elephants.
To be honest we wouldn’t be suprised if this one fell through the cracks, as it sounds expensive for what could be a risky and rather cheesy movie – although that said, Andrew Niccol does have a good track record of turning peculiar ideas into good screenplays.
