Although it may not turn out to be true, according to The Daily Beast, George Clooney is looking for a new franchise to star in and his current favourite is playing Jack Ryan, the Tom Clancy character that’s already been taken on by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. It was announced a few months ago that Hollywood was readying another outing for the CIA analyst, feeling that there was more mileage to get out of the character yet.
However Paramount is always saying that, but little seems to materialise, and after The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger and The Sum Of All Fears, do people care anymore? Even so, theoretically we could be getting both Rainbow Six and Without Remorse, possibly with gorgeous George.
Apparently an inside source has said that Clooney has expressed an interest in playing the role, and it’s not hard to understand his desire for a new franchise, as with the Ocean’s film now over, he’s been having mixed fortunes with his other projects. If he wants to maintain his position in Hollywood, an action franchise is a good bet, although it’s more difficult to tell whether stepping into Jack Ryan’s shoes will provide that. After all, if the character is so bland that three actors can play him and barely anyone notices because they just happen to share a name rather than anything else, it’s tough to now whether there’s actually any more mileage in the Ryan name.
