The trawl through everything 80s continues with the announcement that an action comedy based on the William Shatner cop show T.J. Hooker is now in the works. Having already been replaced by Chris Pine as Captain Kirk is Star Trek, it appears old Shatner will now have to accept the fact another of his most famous roles will be getting a new actor.
Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King, The Mask) is apparently is talks to direct the movie, while Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson will write the script, focussing on the relationship between the title character and his father. So if they’re including the father, does that mean there might be a role for Shatner already in the works?
The film is coming from the same producing team who are working on a remake of Short Circuit, so it appears those guys are slightly obsessed with revisiting their youth.
We’d imagine they’re going to have to do a bit of a Starsky & Hutch reimagining with Hooker though, as it was ok but not exactly the most distinctive, personality filled show ever screened. In fact, would we even still remember it if it hadn’t starred Shatner?
