It appears that Jason Statham might actually be doing some acting, rather than just running around getting into ludicrous yet entertaining scrapes in the Transporter and Crank movies. According to a site called Crime Spree Cinema, he’s signed up to star in a film called Blitz.
He’ll play Brant, an old fashioned, brutal, un-pc cop, who’s teamed up with another cop called Porter Nash, played by Paddy Cosindine. The hook is that Nash is openly gay while Brant is openly homophobic. However they have to work together to try and catch a serial killer who’s blazing a trail of destruction, trying to achieve immortality by killing policemen across London.
Statham’s actually a better actor that he often lets on, and was, for example, very effective in The Bank Job, so this would seem a good fit. It’s not exactly a million miles from what he’d done before, but should give him the opportunity to actually bring a bit of depth to the role.
The film is based on Ken Bruen’s novel, and will be directed by Eliott Lester (Love Is A Drug).
